2017 Sperling Family Fellowship

The Sperling Family Fellowship in Precision Healthcare, organized by BWH and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, combines the strengths of each institution to advance a translational research project with the potential to transform patient care.  The 2017 recipient of the Sperling Family Fellowship is Andrew J. Aguirre, M.D., Ph.D. for his work in colorectal cancer.  Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major cause of cancer death worldwide. Defining the multicellular heterogeneity and the features of colon cancer cells and their associated stromal cells is critical to understanding the biology and clinical behavior of these tumors.
